Q: HOW DO I KNOW WHAT DIVISION TO SIGN THEM UP FOR?

A: If your child is:
  • 4 - 6 years old -  T-Ball
  • 7 - 10 years old - Junior
  • 11 - 14 years old - Intermediate

Q: DOES MY CHILD NEED TO HAVE PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE TO PLAY?

A: Short Answer: No
Longer Answer: AMSA is a house league focused on learning, development and fun! We welcome players of all skill levels, including complete beginners, at any eligible enrollment age. Our amazing volunteer coaches work hard to create a positive and supportive environment.

Here are a few completely optional ways you can help your child feel confident and ready for the season:
  • Get a glove early and let them practice putting it on, taking it off, and catching a ball. Even tossing a soft ball back and forth in the yard helps a lot!
  • Practice the basics at home if/when you can — throwing, catching, and swinging a bat (a plastic or foam bat is perfect to start).
  • Go over a few simple rules together, like:
    • Don’t throw the bat after hitting
    • Run through first base
    • Pay attention when the ball is in play
  • Talk about listening to coaches and trying their best — effort and sportsmanship matter more than skill.
  • Reassure them it’s okay to be new. Everyone starts somewhere, and our league is all about learning, having fun, and building confidence.
  • Make it fun! Keep things light and positive so softball feels exciting, not stressful.
Our coaches will teach the rules and skills throughout the season — these tips just help give kids a great head start.

Q: WHAT EQUIPMENT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO PLAY?

A: The only required equipment is a glove and long pants for games. Shorts are okay for practices, of course. Tshirt jerseys are provided by the league, thanks to our generous sponsors!

Q: HOW LONG IS THE SEASON?

A: Junior and Intermediate divisions typically begin the week before the May long weekend.
T-Ball begins the Monday after the May long weekend.
All divisions run through mid-to-late August.

Q: WHAT IF WE MISS GAMES/PRACTICES?

A: While we encourage our players to attend as many practices and games as possible, we fully understand that summer vacations and family commitments are a part of life! We do ask that families please let their coaches know ahead of time (if possible) when a player is going to be absent so we can ensure games/practices are not delayed.

Q: WHAT NIGHTS DO THEY PLAY?

A: Our league runs Monday - Thursday evenings.

  • T-Ball - our T-Ballers play Monday evenings from 6:30 - 7:30 pm.
  • Junior - our Juniors typically play Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm.
  • Intermediate - our Intermediates typically play Thursday evenings at either 6:30 pm or 8:15 pm
Both Junior and Intermediate divisions also have one practice night during the week, which is set once teams are formed.

Q: CAN I SPONSOR A TEAM?

A: Yes, please! AMSA operates because of our generous sponsors. As a sponsor, you will be helping support softball for children ages 4 - 14 in the New Tec area. Your investment donation will purchase t-shirt jerseys for a team (with your company name on them), a sponsorship plaque with a team photo, as well as trophies.

Q: HOW DO I BECOME A COACH?

A: If you are interested in being a coach, please email us at allistonsoftball@gmail.com .
